How to record evidence of skills delivered in teaching.

Record & Map Evidence

Recording evidence of criteria covered during lessons or activities needs to be quick and simple! We’ve developed a whole range of different methods to capture and map evidence. Here are a few examples, click the buttons below to reveal further details:

Engaging class discussions and plenaries [+]: As part of a class discussion or plenary process, our engaging, drag-n-drop system is used on the interactive whiteboard to record which skills were covered during the lesson or activity. Your teachers will appreciate the time saving aspect of this method as evidence is captured during the teaching process - rather than as part of a “bolt-on” audit procedure. Watch Video
Simple planning and review processes [+]: As part of the planning or review process, teachers use our simple web-based form to record details of the lesson or activity and map which skills it covers. In most cases it takes less than 60 seconds to complete and teachers find it extremely rewarding as they select a range of additional skills they’ve deliver through the lesson or activity. Good old-fashioned paper forms [+]: Some teachers prefer to use our paper-based log sheets to record which skills were delivered during their lesson or activity. These sheets can be sent directly to us or passed on to a data clerk in the school where the data is transferred to the online system. This method suits schools where access to ICT is very limited.

How to share valuable evidence of teaching

Once you’ve established a method of recording evidence - you’ll need an effective means of sharing this valuable information with other individuals, staff members and external organisations. We’ve developed a range of simple and effective tools to accomplish this, click the buttons below to reveal further details:

Printed reports for parents and carers [+]: On ‘parents’ evening’ hand out impressive, printed reports to highlight the wide range of skills and attributes students are developing. At the end of the academic year publish detailed accounts of all the learning opportunities enjoyed by students, including school trips, external visitors, after-school clubs, community work etc.
Valuable planning/review data for school leaders [+]: Provide senior leaders and department managers with interactive reports which include dynamic graphs, charts and clickable maps. Use the grid to visualise whole school data and inform policy or curriculum change. Enable individual teachers to create their own reports to help them plan and review delivery at class or year group level.
Impressive information for Ofsted and others [+]: Give Ofsted and other external organisations access to a “read-only” version of your data - allowing them to see exactly how your school delivers skills through lessons and activities. Share best practice and effective teaching strategies with other partner or ‘family’ schools

The Perfect Plenary?

At a recent conference dedicated to embedding enterprise across the curriculum, we bumped into one of our customers who'd just purchased GridMaker to record evidence of enterprise education in her school. When we asked her how it was going, she replied - "Great, we've got all the teachers across the whole school using it to map and record the enterprise skills they deliver in their lessons". Of course - this was "music to our ears", but we were interested to learn more about the strategy she'd used to roll it out to all members of staff - and with such a positive response!
